Stepfather weeps in court as he's charged with murder of three-year-old stepson

The son of a police chief in Georgia who is accused of murdering his three-year-old stepson broke down in tears as he made his first appearance on Monday. Joshua Richards, 21, flogged his 3-year-old stepson Brentley Gore until the child died. The boy died over the weekend after suffering swelling on the brain from the brutal beating, Villa Rica police said. Prosecutors claim Richards used a belt to beat his stepson while the child's mother slept in the next room of their home in Hickory Falls, Georgia. When the mother of the boy woke from sleep the following morning, she found bruises on her son and he was unconscious. When she couldn't wake him up, she called the police. Police responded to Richards' home at around 10am on Tuesday. The political movement proposed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his letter to President Buhari, was launched at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja , today. Although Obasanjo was absent at the launch, former governors Donald Duke and Olagunsoye Oyinyola, were present at the launch. Duke has since indicated his interest to run for president. Speaking to newsmen, Oyinlola, who is a former governor of Osun State, said the movement is not yet a political party. ''If and when we come to an agreement that we must metaphose into a political party, then we will. We’re not a political party, at least, for now,” he said. Obasanjo in his letter to President Buhari said Nigeria is dire need of a new political group.  The former president opined that neither the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nor the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could give Nigeria the leadership it deserves.

Federal Government frees 951 inmates, 430 others gain admission to University

The Federal Government, through the National Stakeholders on Prison Reforms has freed 951 inmates across three geo-political zones of the country. The inmates had to meet conditions for release before benefitting from the prison decongestion programme. 430 inmates also gained admission to the National Open University while three more are on the verge of completing their doctorate degrees. This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Prisons Service, DCP Francis Enobore at a joint news conference with the Executive Director, Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action PRAWA, Dr. Uju Agomoh. He said: “At the same time, 951 others have been  freed by the Nigerian Prison Services due to the intervention of the national stakeholders which paid various fines imposed on them by various courts as conditions for their freedom. In the education sector, I am pleased to announce that 430 of our prisoners are running various degree courses ...

The royal family actually has a Whatsapp group that they are 'scared to leave'

Most families have a Whatsapp group where they update each other on what's going on in their lives and it has now been revealed that the royal family is no different in this regard. In an interview with  The Mirror , former rugby player Mike Tindall, who is married to Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter Zara Tindall, explained that he and a few members of the Royal household have a group WhatsApp and the members of the group are afraid to leave the group lest they come off as rude. He said: "Me, my brother and then a few of Zara’s side like her brother Pete and the cousins are on WhatsApp groups. I wouldn’t say we’re cutting edge, but it’s just easier for some reason on WhatsApp." Mike lamented: "I’m in about 25,000 groups. You might do it for a get-together and just stay on the group, and occasionally people will post. You’re scared to leave because you don’t want to be seen as rude."

Federal Government says it will shut down all open drug markets this year

The Nigerian Federal Government has said it will shut down all open drug markets this year to curb unwholesome drug distribution system. The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, disclosed this in a statement issued after a ground breaking ceremony of the Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC) in Abia. Adewole, in the statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), frowned at the chaotic drug distribution system in the country thereby endangering the lives of the populace. He noted that the closure of all open drug markets would immediately kick start full implementation of the CWC component of the National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDG). The minister, who identified unsatisfactory drug distribution system as one of the challenges in the use of medicine in the country, however said that this has led to poor product handling. Lagos State government issues 20-day ultimatum for markets clean up or risk closure

The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode has expressed displeasure with the present state of various markets across the State, saying that leaders of the various markets must prevail on their members to clean up their dirty surroundings within the next 20 days or risk closure of their markets. The directive was issued in Alausa during a stakeholders forum with market leaders in the 57 local governments and local council development areas of the State. ATM Jackpotting, in which thieves/hackers use a variety of tools to hack into ATMs and cause them to dispense large amounts of cash on demand, has been a legitimate threat for several years now. Until now however, jackpotting was mostly a threat in Europe, Asia, and Mexico.  According to the Krebs report, the US Secret Service recently sent out a confidential alert to multiple financial institutions warning that the “targeted stand-alone ATMs are routinely located in pharmacies, big box retailers, and drive-thru ATMs.” The thieves have been posing as ATM technicians and, using a medical endoscope, locate an area within the machine where they can attach their own computers. The original hard disk of the ATM is removed and replaced with a disk that mirrors the ATM’s own software. President Buhari has warned that his government would no longer tolerate wanton killings and kidnapping by hoodlums in any parrt of the country. President Buhari issued the warning when he declared  open the 9th General Assembly of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. Police arrest 27-year old robber who specialize in stealing from expatriate worshipers at the National Mosque

A 27-year-old beggar, Bashir Adamu, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting motorists and snatching phones and handbags, on Tuesday, revealed that his targets were expatriates who worshipped at the National Mosque, Abuja. He was arrested along with two others. He said that he operated on Fridays during Juma’at prayers. Police sources revealed that the suspect was arrested about a fortnight ago for snatching a phone at the mosque, adding that he was arraigned and granted bail before he was re-arrested for a similar offence last Friday. . Adamu, who admitted that he was just released on bail, said, “I only target oyinbo people (expatriates) who come to the National Mosque to pray on Fridays. Man kills couple, returns next day to kill their 17-month-old daughter

A 24-year-old Missouri man,  Drew Atchison, 24, who killed a family of three, is facing a possible death sentence after authorities charged him with allegedly stabbing a young couple to death before returning the following day to fatally shoot the couple's 17-month-old daughter. Court documents obtained by PEOPLE confirm that has been arrested as the sole suspect in the Jan. 25 slayings of Samara Fontaine Kitts, 23, and her 24-year-old high school sweetheart, Harley Michael Million, and the Jan. 26 killing of their 17-month-old daughter, Willa Fontaine Million.
